Short answer

Grade % = points earned ÷ points possible × 100. Example: 42 / 50 = 84%. For weighted classes, multiply each category percentage by its weight, then add.

Teachers post points; report cards show percentages. Bridging the two is straightforward division.

% = earned ÷ possible × 100 — use the percentage calculator.

Weighted categories

If tests are 60% and homework 40%: overall = 0.6×test% + 0.4×homework%. Averages of raw lists belong in the average calculator; see mean, median and mode.

From percent to GPA

Schools map percent bands to letter grades, then to GPA points — follow how to calculate GPA and the GPA calculator.

How to practise

Invent three mini-problems from your own life — a bill, a grade, a trip, a loan quote — and solve them on paper before you open the calculator. Teaching the steps to someone else is one of the fastest ways to lock in the method.
