Nigeria reserves near $55bn after CBN data correction

In brief
Nairametrics published a corrigendum on 14 October 2026 after the Central Bank of Nigeria revised website data. External reserves were reported at about $55.07 billion as of 9 October 2026, following steady gains through September from roughly $53.90 billion at the start of that month.
What changed
An earlier CBN website print that appeared to show a much higher peak was withdrawn. Nairametrics said the CBN advised that the higher figure was incorrect and updated the site. Journalists and readers should use the revised series.
Recent path of reserves
According to the corrected write-up, reserves moved from about $53.90 billion on 1 September to $54.93 billion on 30 September, then to roughly $55.08 billion on 9 October. Net reserves were described separately near $46 billion and should not be confused with gross reserves.
Policy backdrop
The same report noted the CBN's September cut in the Monetary Policy Rate from 26.5% to 23%, and cited a World Bank growth forecast for Nigeria of 4.3% in 2026.
