Apple and Meta Team Up to Run Muse AI on Mac Studios

In brief
On 15 October 2026 Apple and Meta said developers can run Meta’s open-weight Muse Spark Open model locally on high-end Mac Studio computers. CNBC reported the unlikely alliance focuses on on-device AI rather than cloud-only inference, using Apple’s MLX framework and M5 Ultra hardware.
According to CNBC, Muse Spark Open is described by Meta as an 816-billion-parameter mixture-of-experts open-weight model that developers can download and run on compatible hardware. The companies said workloads such as coding, video analysis and agent-style tasks can run across two to four Mac Studio machines instead of a remote data centre.
Meta’s AI leadership told CNBC that Apple silicon provides enough memory for practical local use of large open-weight models, and that Muse Spark Open was tuned for Apple’s chips with documentation for splitting models across machines. A Mac Studio configuration cited in the report started around 10,799 US dollars for an M5 Ultra with 256 GB of memory, with a higher-memory option expected later in the month — so the setup is aimed at serious developers, not casual laptops.
Meta also posted about the release on its research channels, framing Muse Spark Open as a capable open-weight option under a license that allows limited commercial use. Neither company said whether the Mac collaboration signals a wider commercial partnership.
