How to use the Gurpurab Countdown

Guru Nanak Gurpurab, also called Guru Nanak Jayanti or Prakash Purab, marks the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Sikh Guru. In 2026 it falls on Tuesday 24 November, the full-moon day of Kartik. The timer above counts down to midnight at the start of that day in your own time zone.

Celebrations often begin two days earlier with an Akhand Path, a non-stop reading of the Guru Granth Sahib, and many cities hold a nagar kirtan procession the weekend before. Gurdwaras serve langar to everyone, so check your local gurdwara for programme times.

Worked example: on 10 November 2026 at 6:00 pm the countdown shows 13 days and 6 hours, because 13 full days plus the six hours until midnight remain before 24 November.

Share the countdown with your family group, and make a Gurpurab wishes card in Punjabi, Hindi or English with our free greeting card maker. The Diwali countdown and Lohri countdown cover the other big Punjabi festivals of the season.
