How to use the Hindi & Punjabi Keyboard

Choose Hindi or Punjabi and tap the keys to build words. Hindi uses the Devanagari script and Punjabi uses Gurmukhi. Type a consonant first and then its vowel sign (matra): for example क + ि = कि and ਕ + ਿ = ਕਿ. To join two consonants in Hindi, add the halant (्) between them, as in स + ् + त = स्त.

The text box works like any normal box, so you can mix the on-screen keys with your own keyboard, move the cursor and delete letters with ⌫. When you are done, press Copy and paste the text into WhatsApp, Instagram, email, Word or Google Docs.

Worked example: to type नमस्ते tap न, म, स, ्, त and े. In Punjabi, ਸਤ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਕਾਲ is ਸ, ਤ, Space, ਸ, ੍, ਰ, ੀ, Space, ਅ, ਕ, ਾ, ਲ.

The typing practice below shows a short everyday sentence. Type it with your phone’s Hindi or Punjabi keyboard (or the keys above) to see your accuracy and words per minute, and tap New sentence for another. It is good practice for students, government typing tests and anyone learning to write in their mother tongue. Nothing you type is saved or uploaded.
