Match report
Ireland captain Paul Stirling won the toss and bowled, and Byron McDonough struck in the first over. Jan Frylinck (76) and captain Gerhard Erasmus then added 117 for the third wicket. Erasmus went on to a career-best unbeaten 156 from 125 balls, his previous highest ODI score being 125, and Namibia piled on 96 runs after slipping to 225 for 5 to finish on 321 for 6. Spinner Gavin Hoey was Ireland’s best bowler with 3 for 53.
Stirling led the chase with 77 from 71 balls, but Ireland lost three wickets for six runs around the halfway mark, including Stirling lbw to Jack Brassell. Campher and Dockrell rebuilt, and a ninth-wicket stand of 58 between Hoey and Jai Moondra kept Ireland in the hunt until Erasmus took the last two wickets himself. Ireland were all out for 290 in 47.3 overs, and the five-match series is level at 1-1.
VSH take
A true captain’s game from Erasmus, with the bat and then the ball. Ireland’s death bowling let Namibia add almost 100 in the last seven overs, and that was the difference. The third ODI is on Tuesday, 27 October, in Windhoek.
