In brief

National poll aggregators continue to show Democrats ahead on the 2026 House generic ballot. The Hill and Decision Desk HQ’s average dated 17 October listed Democrats at 49.8% and Republicans at 42.1%. Silver Bulletin’s public update earlier in October placed the Democratic lead near 8.9 points on its default average.

Where the averages sit

The Hill/DDHQ tracker summarises hundreds of surveys; its 17 October topline was Democrat 49.8% to Republican 42.1%. Call the Map’s midterm dashboard on the same day described a generic-ballot polling average around Democrats +7.7 with a likely-voter-adjusted blend near +8.3. Individual recent polls include ActiVote’s 4–14 October likely-voter survey at 53.3% to 46.7%.

What averages are not

Generic-ballot leads are not seat forecasts. Turnout, district maps, candidate quality and late shifts can all move the House outcome. ViralScopeHub’s elections hub lists aggregator figures with dates and links; we do not pick winners.

Calendar

U.S. Election Day for the midterms is 3 November 2026. Early voting has already begun in some states, so averages can move weekly as new surveys publish.

Why it matters

The generic ballot is the simplest national signal for House control. With Election Day under three weeks away, investors and campaigns watch these averages closely even though they are not predictions.
