SIP Calculator – Mutual Fund SIP Returns with Step-Up
See what a monthly SIP could grow to, with an optional yearly step-up and lump sum.
How to use: Enter your monthly SIP, the return you expect and how many years you will invest. Add a yearly step-up if your SIP will grow with your salary.
How to use the SIP Calculator
A SIP (systematic investment plan) puts a fixed amount into a mutual fund every month. Enter that amount, the yearly return you expect and how long you will keep investing. The step-up box raises your SIP by a percentage every 12 months, which is how many people match a growing salary. You can also add a one-time lump sum and an inflation rate to see the value in today’s money.
Formula: each instalment is added at the start of the month and grows at the monthly rate i = yearly return ÷ 12. Without a step-up this equals P × [(1 + i)n − 1] ÷ i × (1 + i), where n is the number of months.
Worked example: ₹10,000 a month for 10 years at 12% gives about ₹23,23,391 on ₹12,00,000 invested, a gain of ₹11,23,391. With a 10% yearly step-up the same plan reaches about ₹33,74,326 on ₹19,12,491 invested.
This is an estimate, not financial advice. Equity fund returns go up and down, and 12% is only an assumption. Read the scheme documents and learn more at AMFI or SEBI’s investor site. Updated October 2026.
Frequently asked questions
What return should I assume for a SIP?
Many people use 10–12% a year for diversified equity funds over 10+ years, and 6–8% for debt funds. Past returns do not guarantee future ones, so try a lower rate too.
What is a step-up SIP?
A SIP that increases by a fixed percentage every year, for example 10%. Small yearly increases make a big difference over long periods.
Is the SIP return calculated monthly?
Yes. Each instalment compounds monthly from the month it is invested, which is how most Indian SIP calculators work.
Are SIP gains taxed?
Yes. Equity fund gains above ₹1.25 lakh a year are taxed as long-term capital gains after one year; debt fund gains are taxed at your slab rate. This calculator shows pre-tax values.
How much SIP do I need for ₹1 crore?
At 12% a year, about ₹19,800 a month for 15 years, or about ₹10,000 a month for 20 years.
