Short answer

Open our PDF to JPG converter, pick a resolution (150 DPI for screens, 300 DPI for print) and a format, then choose the PDF. Every page appears as an image that you can download one by one or as a ZIP. The PDF is rendered in your browser, so it is not uploaded.

You may need a page from a PDF as a picture to post in a chat, add to a slide, upload to a form that only accepts images, or share a certificate on social media. Converting turns each page into a separate JPG or PNG.

How do I convert a PDF to JPG?

  1. Open the PDF to JPG converter.
  2. Choose the resolution (DPI) and format: JPG for small files, PNG for crisp text and diagrams.
  3. Select the PDF. Pages are drawn one by one using Mozilla's open-source PDF.js engine.
  4. Download the pages you need, or all of them as a ZIP.

Which DPI should I choose?

PDF pages have a physical size, so the pixel size of the image depends on the DPI (dots per inch) you choose.

DPIA4 page in pixelsUS Letter in pixelsGood for
72595 Γ— 842612 Γ— 792Thumbnails, quick previews
1501240 Γ— 17541275 Γ— 1650Screens, chat, email
3002480 Γ— 35082550 Γ— 3300Printing, zooming into small text

Higher DPI means sharper images but bigger files. For most sharing, 150 DPI is enough.

How do I convert just one page?

Convert the file and download only the page you need. For a very long PDF, it is quicker to extract the page first with the PDF splitter (see how to split a PDF) and convert the short file.

JPG or PNG?

JPG is best for scanned pages and photos because it keeps files small. PNG keeps sharp edges on text, charts and line drawings without the faint blur JPG can add, but files are larger. Our PNG vs JPG vs WebP guide explains the trade-offs.

The image is too big for an upload form

Convert at 150 DPI instead of 300, then compress the JPG to the exact limit with compress image to 20KB.

Going the other way

To turn photos back into a single document, use Image to PDF or follow our JPG to PDF guide. To join several PDFs into one, see how to merge PDF files.

Password-protected PDFs

If a PDF needs a password to open, you need the password. Open it, save an unprotected copy if you are allowed to, then convert that copy. Do not try to bypass protection on documents that are not yours.

Frequently asked questions

How can I convert a PDF to JPG for free?

Use a browser tool such as our PDF to JPG converter: pick a DPI and format, choose the file and download the page images.

What DPI is best for PDF to JPG?

150 DPI suits screens and sharing. Use 300 DPI for printing or when you need to zoom into small text.

Can I convert only one page of a PDF?

Yes. Download just that page, or split the PDF first and convert the single page.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The PDF is rendered in your browser with PDF.js and stays on your device.

Why is my JPG blurry?

The DPI was probably too low. Convert again at 200 to 300 DPI, or choose PNG for text-heavy pages.
