Mic Test
Check that your microphone works before a call, class or game. Talk and watch the live wave move, then record a short clip to hear how you sound.
The VSH take: the 3-second mic check
Most mic problems are not broken hardware. They are the wrong device picked, a muted switch, or a browser that was never given permission. This test shows all three: the device name, a live meter, and a plain-English verdict (Silent, Quiet, Good or Too loud) so you know what to fix before your meeting starts.
If your mic is not working
- No permission prompt? Click the lock or camera icon in the address bar and allow the microphone, then reload.
- Meter stays flat? Pick another microphone in the list. Headsets and webcams often add a second device.
- Windows: Settings › Privacy › Microphone › allow apps and browsers. Mac: System Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone.
- Phone: allow the browser to use the microphone in your phone’s app settings.
- Sounds robotic or quiet? Move closer (about a hand’s width away) and check the input volume in your system sound settings.

Frequently asked questions
How do I test my mic online?
Press Start mic test, allow access when your browser asks, and speak. The wave and meter move when sound is picked up. Record a 5-second clip to hear yourself.
Is this mic test private?
Yes. The sound stays in your browser. Nothing is recorded to our servers, and your clip disappears when you close the page.
Why does it say my mic is silent?
The wrong device may be selected, the mic may be muted, or the browser may be blocked. Pick another device in the list and check your system privacy settings.
Does this work on iPhone and Android?
Yes, in Safari, Chrome and other modern browsers. Tap Start and allow the microphone when asked.
What is a good mic level?
When you talk normally the meter should reach the middle, shown as Good. Constant red Too loud means the input gain is too high.
Runs 100% in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or saved on our servers. Made by VSH.
