Webcam Test
Make sure your camera works and looks good before a video call, interview or class.
The VSH take: look good, not just “working”
Most webcam tests stop at “yes, there is a picture”. This one also checks the two things people notice on a call: sharpness (the real resolution your camera sends, which is often lower than the box says) and lighting (a live score from the brightness of your image). Turn on the framing grid and put your eyes on the top line for a natural, professional look.
Quick fixes
- Black screen: close other apps using the camera (Zoom, Teams, Discord), then press Start again.
- Blocked: click the camera icon in the address bar and allow access, then reload.
- Too dark: face a window or lamp. Light behind you makes your face dark.
- Blurry: wipe the lens and check the resolution. 1280×720 or more is good for calls.
- Laptop: some have a privacy switch or an F-key that turns the camera off.

Frequently asked questions
How do I test my webcam?
Press Start webcam and allow access. If you see a live picture, it works. The panel shows resolution, frame rate and lighting.
Is this webcam test safe?
Yes. The video stays on your device. Nothing is recorded or sent to us. Snapshots are only saved if you download them.
Why is my webcam not working?
Another app may be using it, permission may be blocked, or a privacy switch may be on. Close other apps, allow access and try again.
What is a good webcam resolution?
720p (1280×720) is fine for most calls. 1080p (1920×1080) looks sharper for streaming and interviews.
Why is the picture mirrored?
Previews are mirrored so moving feels natural, like a mirror. Others usually see you the right way round. Use the Mirror button to switch.
