In brief

Several people were injured in another attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Saturday, Saudi authorities said. The Civil Aviation Authority suspended operations at the hub after the strike.

According to the BBC, more than a dozen ambulances were seen heading to the airport, and a local hospital source told AFP that dozens of people had been wounded. The attack follows deadly Houthi strikes on Saudi airports earlier in the week, including an incident that killed three Saudis, among them a pilot.

Gulf airlines cancelled or diverted flights, citing the security situation. The US embassy said it was aware of the attacks. Yemen’s Houthis, who control much of the country’s north-west, have claimed earlier airport and oil-facility strikes and announced a maritime embargo against Saudi Arabia amid renewed fighting with Saudi-backed government forces.

Saturday’s attacker was not independently confirmed in early reports. Passengers and airlines were told to watch official Saudi aviation updates for when the airport would reopen.

Why it matters

Repeated strikes on a major Gulf hub disrupt travel across the Middle East and raise the risk of a wider regional escalation.
