Russia Glide Bomb Strike Kills 15 in Zaporizhzhia

In brief
A Russian glide-bomb attack on the south-eastern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia on Saturday morning killed at least 15 people, including three children, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky. State emergency services said at least 16 others were injured and more people were feared trapped under rubble.
According to the BBC, Zelensky said five glide bombs struck residential buildings. Rescue teams were still searching the debris later in the day. The attack came hours after US President Donald Trump confirmed a deal to import Russian diesel into the United States.
Civilian casualties in Ukraine have risen sharply this year. The UN has reported a large increase in civilian deaths and injuries in the first eight months of 2026 compared with the same period a year earlier. Recent strikes also hit Kramatorsk and Pryluky with high death tolls.
Russia has again targeted Ukrainian cities and energy sites as winter approaches. Ukraine has also struck Russian infrastructure, including data centres linked to the tech firm Yandex. Independent confirmation of every casualty figure was still being gathered on Saturday.
Why it matters
The strike adds to a pattern of heavy civilian losses and keeps pressure on diplomacy around fuel deals and the wider war.
