How to use: Enter the original servings and the servings you want, then paste the ingredient list with one ingredient per line, starting with the amount.
Double, halve or resize any recipe. Paste the ingredients and get new amounts instantly.
How does recipe scaling work?
Scale factor = new servings ÷ original servings. Going from 4 to 6 servings is ×1.5, so 2 cups becomes 3 cups. The tool understands whole numbers, decimals, fractions (1/2, 1 1/2), symbols like ½ and ranges like 2-3, and rounds to kitchen-friendly fractions.
Tips for scaling
- Spices, salt and chillies: add a little less than scaled, then taste.
- Baking: weigh ingredients in grams for best results, and keep pan size in mind.
- Cooking time changes less than quantities; check doneness rather than multiplying time.
VSH take: for eggs, round to the nearest whole egg or beat one and use part.
Examples
- 4 → 6 servings: Factor 1.5: 2 cups rice → 3 cups; 3/4 tsp salt → 1 1/8 tsp.
- Halving: Factor 0.5: 250 g paneer → 125 g.
- Doubling: Factor 2: 1 1/2 tbsp ghee → 3 tbsp.
