How to use: Enter your steps, then your height (we estimate your step length) or type your measured step length in cm for the most accurate result.
Turn your step count into kilometres and miles using your height or your real step length.
How do you convert steps to km?
Distance = steps × step length. If you don’t know your step length, a common estimate is height × 0.415 for men and height × 0.413 for women. So a 170 cm man has a step of about 70.6 cm, and 10,000 steps comes to about 7.06 km.
Measure your own step length
- Mark a start line and walk 10 normal steps.
- Measure the distance in cm.
- Divide by 10 and type that into the step length box.
VSH take: running steps are longer than walking steps, so measure separately if you run.
Examples
- 10,000 steps, 76.2 cm step: 10,000 × 76.2 cm = 7.62 km (4.73 miles).
- 5,000 steps, 165 cm woman: Step ≈ 68.1 cm, so about 3.41 km.
- How many steps in 1 km?: With a 70 cm step: 100,000 ÷ 70 ≈ 1,429 steps.
