A generational change at city hall
Tedjo, 43, has been the Ward 2 councillor since 2022 and is only the fourth person to hold the mayor’s job in nearly half a century. Hazel McCallion served 36 years from 1978, followed by Bonnie Crombie for nearly a decade, then Carolyn Parrish (CBC News).
Tedjo’s campaign gained steadily. In 2024 he finished second to Parrish in the mayoral byelection with 25% to her 31%. An August 2026 poll by Liaison Strategies had him fourth with 12% of decided and leaning voters, with Parrish and Crombie at 35% each. By October 22 he was at 31%, ahead of Parrish at 28% and just behind Crombie at 35% (CBC News). On election day he led both of them.
“Mississauga has voted for change,” Tedjo told supporters. “It is beyond a doubt the honour of a lifetime to stand here as your next mayor… This is a tremendous responsibility that I do not take lightly” (CP24, CBC News). Parrish conceded and offered to advise him: “He can pick up the phone and call me anytime, and I’ll tell him what not to do.” Crombie said she called Tedjo to congratulate him and that serving Mississauga had been “the honour of my life.”

Polls versus the result
Polls in Mississauga moved fast, which is why the result felt like a late surge. The numbers above are the only ones that count. Our Mississauga election page keeps the poll history separate from the results so the two are not mixed.
Our read: a three-way race with nearly even support in August turned into a clear win with 39% when the incumbent and the former mayor split a large part of the vote. That is arithmetic from the table, not a claim about why voters chose as they did.
What happens next
- The City Clerk certifies the results. Official results will be posted on mississauga.ca/elections once the process is complete.
- The mayor and council take office in the new term; check the City for the swearing-in date.
