What the results tell us
Our read, based on the numbers above: voters in several big cities changed their mayor (Mississauga, Hamilton, Oakville, Milton, Niagara Falls, Clarington), while the largest cities by population, Toronto and Ottawa, kept theirs. Toronto’s turnout jumped. Three long-serving mayors lost (Milton since 1980, Oakville since 2006, Niagara Falls since 2010). In Oakville the winner had 36% and in Milton 45%, so neither won a majority of the vote. This is our summary of reported figures, not a claim about voters’ reasons.
