School board races

The City’s page also lists results for the four school boards that serve Ottawa: the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (12 zones), the Ottawa Catholic School Board (10 zones), the Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario and the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est. Several zones were won by acclamation. Check the City’s results page for the trustee in your zone, since trustee zones do not match council wards.

What Sutcliffe’s win means

Sutcliffe, a former broadcaster and business owner, held off 13 challengers, CBC News reports. Leiper’s 33.90% was a strong second but well short of the winner. This post reports numbers only; for the policy debate see the candidates’ platforms on the City’s election site and local reporting from CBC Ottawa and the Ottawa Citizen.

Our read: with a 10.75-point gap between the top two (44.65% minus 33.90%), this was a clear result, not a photo finish, so a change in the order after certification is not expected. That is our reading of the unofficial numbers, not a statement from the City.
