US Midterm Election 2026 Results Hub: What to Watch on November 3
Short answer
The 2026 US midterm election is Tuesday, November 3, and there are no results yet. Voters will elect all 435 House seats, 35 of 100 Senate seats and 36 governors. Democrats need a net gain of four seats for the Senate and three for the House. We add a race to this page only after the Associated Press calls it, and show the call time.
Unofficial until certified. This is a results hub published before voting. Nothing here is a result until a race is listed as called by the Associated Press, and final results are certified by each state. Last updated October 27, 2026, 8:45 AM ET. ViralScopeHub is independent and not affiliated with any election office, party or government.
Status right now: voting is November 3, so there are no results yet
As of October 27, 2026, 8:45 AM ET, no 2026 US midterm results exist. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026. This page is our results hub. Until races are called, the results section below stays empty on purpose. We will only add a race here once the Associated Press has called it, and every line will name AP as the source and show the time it was added. If AP has not called a race, we say so.
Election-night totals are preliminary. Final tallies can take days or weeks, and states certify on their own schedules (see our guide to how US election night counting works).

Today’s Congress, per Al Jazeera: Republicans hold the House 218 to 214 with one independent who sits with them and two vacancies, and Republicans hold 53 Senate seats to the Democratic bloc’s 47 (45 Democrats plus two independents who sit with them). Republicans are defending 22 of the 35 Senate seats and Democrats 13. For a Senate majority, Democrats need a net gain of four seats to reach 51; Republicans keep control with 50 because the vice president breaks ties. NBC News says Democrats need a net gain of three seats to win the House.
The EPRS (the European Parliament’s research service) lists Alaska, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio and Texas as the competitive Senate battlegrounds, citing nonpartisan trackers. Ratings are opinions; they are not results.
When results start and how long they can take
- The first polls close at about 6 p.m. Eastern on November 3, and results begin appearing after that (Al Jazeera). Polls close at different local times across the country; our World Clock helps you convert them.
- Some close races can take days to resolve (Al Jazeera). Mail, early, provisional and overseas ballots are counted under state rules.
- The new House is sworn in on January 3, 2027 (Al Jazeera).
- A “call” by AP or another outlet is a projection, not a certification. State officials certify results.

No races called yet. Voting begins November 3. When AP calls races, we will list them here in this form: race, winner, party, AP call time ET. We will not list leaders, partial counts or projections from other sources as winners.

Where to follow official results
- Associated Press: AP 2026 election results for Senate, House and governor races.
- Your state election office: every state publishes its own unofficial results and its certification schedule. USAGov links to them.
- Our pages: United States elections hub (calendar and poll averages), what is on the ballot, latest midterm polls, and state pages such as California, Texas and Florida.
- Big city races on the same day: Los Angeles mayor runoff (Karen Bass vs Nithya Raman) and the Washington, DC mayor election.
Polls are not predictions. Our US hub shows named poll averages with as-of dates, and never treats a poll as a result.
How to read midterm results
Midterms are held halfway through a president’s term and are widely seen as a verdict on the president. Since 1946 the president’s party has lost an average of 26.5 House seats, according to George Washington University’s Todd Belt as quoted by Al Jazeera. That is history, not a forecast for this year. Recent redistricting in some states has also changed the maps (EPRS), so comparisons with 2022 seat counts should be made carefully.
