CD Ladder Calculator

A CD ladder splits money into equal CDs maturing 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 years apart, so some cash frees up every year. Each rung grows as principal × (1 + APY)^years.

Updated · by ViralScopeHub Team

How to use: Enter the total to invest, the number of rungs, and the APY for each CD term (check your bank’s current rates).

Split savings across CDs or fixed deposits of different terms and see what each rung earns.

How a CD ladder works

Instead of locking all your money in one long CD, you split it. When the 1-year CD matures, you can spend it or reinvest it into a new 5-year CD, so after a few years a CD matures every year at long-term rates. In India the same idea works with fixed deposits; see our FD calculator.

APY already includes compounding, so value = principal × (1 + APY)years. The sample rates are placeholders, not live offers; type in rates from your bank.

VSH take: check early-withdrawal penalties and deposit insurance limits (FDIC in the US, CDIC in Canada, DICGC in India).
