Discover Airlines to fly Edmonton to Frankfurt nonstop from June 2027

In brief
Edmonton is getting its only nonstop link to Germany. Discover Airlines, the leisure airline of the Lufthansa Group, announced on October 20, 2026, that it will fly between Edmonton International Airport (YEG) and Frankfurt three times a week from June 1, 2027. The seasonal route is scheduled to run until October 30, 2027.
Schedule and aircraft
Flights will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. According to the airline and the airport, the first flight, 4Y070, is scheduled to leave Frankfurt at 1:05 p.m. on June 1, 2027, and land in Edmonton at 2:30 p.m. local time. The return flight, 4Y071, leaves Edmonton at 4:15 p.m. and reaches Frankfurt at 9:05 a.m. the next morning. The route will use an Airbus A330-300 with up to 283 seats: 30 in Business Class with lie-flat beds, 28 in Premium Economy and 225 in Economy.
Edmonton becomes Discover Airlines' third Canadian destination after Calgary and Halifax. The airline says that makes it possible to plan open-jaw road trips through the Rockies, for example flying into Edmonton and home from Calgary. Through the Lufthansa Group network, Frankfurt connects to destinations across Europe, Asia and the Middle East, and the airport says travellers can earn and redeem Aeroplan points and book through Air Canada channels as well as Miles & More.
Why it matters for Alberta travellers
Until now, Edmonton travellers heading to Germany have needed a connection. A nonstop flight saves time, and the timing of the eastbound departure (late afternoon) means arriving in Europe in the morning. The route was announced the same week the Lufthansa Group unveiled its summer 2027 network.
VSH take: a new nonstop route usually means more choice and, often, more competitive fares, but the first summer is when seats are easiest to plan for early. If Europe is on your list for 2027, start comparing on our flight search page and plan the rest of the trip on the travel hub. Edmonton is eight hours behind Frankfurt in summer, which you can confirm with the time zone converter. Our jet lag guide helps with that overnight eastbound flight, and the currency converter turns dollars into euros for your budget.
