How the 36 points are scored

Your Moon (Chandra) sign and nakshatra are found from each birth date and time. Then the eight kootas are checked in this order:

KootaPointsWhat is compared
Varna1The traditional class of each Moon sign; full point if the first partner’s is equal or higher.
Vashya2The Vashya group of each sign (quadruped, human, water, wild, insect) from a 5×5 table.
Tara3The count from one birth star to the other, in both directions; 1.5 each unless the count falls on 3, 5 or 7 (mod 9).
Yoni4The animal symbol of each nakshatra, from a 14×14 table; same animal 4, traditional opposites 0.
Graha Maitri5How friendly the planets ruling the two Moon signs are to each other.
Gana6Temperament: Deva, Manushya or Rakshasa.
Bhakoot7The distance between the two Moon signs; 0 points for 2–12, 5–9 and 6–8.
Nadi8Full points if the two Nadis (Adi, Madhya, Antya) differ.

Reading your result

Many families look for 18 or more; 25–32 is considered very good and 33 or more excellent. Treat the number as a conversation starter, not a verdict. The tool also shows each partner’s Gana, Nadi and Yoni, and notes where traditions allow exceptions, such as Bhakoot or Nadi.

Frequently asked questions

What is Guna Milan or Ashtakoota matching?

It is the traditional Indian method of comparing two Moon nakshatras and Moon signs across eight areas (koota) worth 36 points in total. Many families look for at least 18 points, but it is only one tradition and not a prediction.

What are the eight kootas and their points?

Varna 1, Vashya 2, Tara 3, Yoni 4, Graha Maitri 5, Gana 6, Bhakoot 7 and Nadi 8. Together they make 36.

Why is my score different on another website?

Traditions and software differ in small details, such as the Vashya and Yoni tables and how Sagittarius and Capricorn are grouped. We use one common whole-sign convention and say so openly. A difference of a point or two between sites is normal.

What does a low score mean?

Nothing decisive. The score is a traditional checklist, not a verdict. Many happy couples score below 18, and many high scorers still need to work at communication, respect and trust.

Do I need exact birth time?

Not really. Guna Milan uses only the Moon sign and nakshatra, so the date is usually enough. The time matters only if the Moon changed sign or nakshatra on the birth day. If you know each partner’s Moon nakshatra, choose that mode instead.

Is this advice for choosing a life partner?

No. It is for fun and cultural interest. ViralScopeHub takes no responsibility for decisions made because of it. Marriage is a personal decision: talk to each other, your families and, if you wish, a qualified counsellor.
