PSG’s back-to-back
Paris Saint-Germain waited decades for a first title and won it in style in 2025, beating Inter 5–0 in Munich, the biggest winning margin in a final. A year later, in Budapest on 30 May 2026, they drew 1–1 with Arsenal and won the shoot-out. They became the first team to retain the trophy since Real Madrid’s three in a row from 2016 to 2018. Coach Luis Enrique now has three Champions League wins, one with Barcelona and two with PSG.
Nights fans remember
Istanbul 2005: Liverpool were 3–0 down to Milan at half-time, drew 3–3 and won on penalties. Barcelona 1999: Manchester United scored twice in stoppage time to beat Bayern. Lisbon 2014: Sergio Ramos equalised in the 93rd minute and Real Madrid went on to beat Atlético 4–1. Porto’s 2004 win under a young José Mourinho is still the last by a club from outside the big five leagues.
The new format
From 2024–25 the group stage was replaced by a 36-team league phase. Each club plays eight different opponents before the knockout rounds. Check live European football on our live scores page.
