Australian tax rates for residents
These are the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) rates for people who are tax residents for the full year and claim the tax-free threshold. The 2026–27 year is the first with the lower 15% rate in the second bracket, down from 16%. A further cut to 14% is legislated from 1 July 2027.

What the calculator includes
It applies the bracket rates to your taxable income and adds a flat 2% Medicare levy if ticked. Taxable income is your pay and other income minus deductions, so it can be lower than your salary. Salary-sacrificed super is also taken out first.
What it leaves out
Working holiday makers and foreign residents have different rates. The calculator does not include the Medicare levy surcharge, the low-income Medicare reduction, HELP student loan repayments, tax offsets such as LITO, or your employer’s 12% super, which is paid on top of your salary and is not part of take-home pay. For a tax return estimate, use the ATO tax rates page and its income tax estimator.
VSH take: the average rate matters for your budget, but the “tax on your next $1” figure shows what a raise or a side job really keeps. Planning a move? Convert pay with the AUD to USD converter.
