If you were 18+ and lived in Canada since 2009 and never contributed, your 2026 TFSA room is $109,000. Room = all yearly limits since you qualified − contributions + past withdrawals.

How to use: Enter your birth year, the year you became a Canadian resident, your total contributions and withdrawals before 2026, and anything contributed so far in 2026.

Estimate how much TFSA room you have in 2026, using official CRA limits since 2009.

How TFSA room is calculated

From the year you turn 18 and are a resident of Canada, you get each year’s TFSA dollar limit. Unused room carries forward forever. Withdrawals are added back on January 1 of the next year. So room now = sum of limits − contributions made + withdrawals made before this year − contributions this year.

TFSA dollar limits (CRA)

2009–2012$5,000 a year
2013–2014$5,500
2015$10,000
2016–2018$5,500
2019–2022$6,000
2023$6,500
2024–2026$7,000

Source: Canada Revenue Agency. Your CRA account shows official room but updates only once a year, so track your own records. Also see the RRSP contribution calculator and Canada income tax calculator.

VSH take: re-contributing a withdrawal in the same year is the most common over-contribution mistake.
