Rotate Video – Rotate 90° or Flip Video Online Free

Fix sideways or upside-down phone videos, or mirror a selfie video, in a few taps.

How to use: Choose a video, pick rotate 90° right or left, 180° or a mirror flip, then press Rotate video and download the fixed MP4.

Runs on your device. When you press the button, a free open-source video engine (FFmpeg, about 31 MB) downloads once and is then cached. Your video is never uploaded.

How to use the Rotate & Flip Video

Phones decide which way up a video is from how you hold them when you press record. If you started recording while the phone was lying flat or turning, the whole video can come out sideways or upside down. Front-camera videos can also look mirrored, so writing appears backwards.

Choose a video and check the preview. Pick Rotate 90° right if the top of the picture is on the left side, Rotate 90° left if it is on the right side, and 180° if it is upside down. Use Flip horizontally to un-mirror a selfie video, or Flip vertically for the rare case where a video is mirrored top to bottom.

Press Rotate video. The picture is turned for real and saved as a new MP4, rather than only adding a rotation tag that some players ignore, so it will look right everywhere. The original sound is kept, and your original file is not changed.

Rotate or flip: what is the difference?

Rotating turns the whole picture around its centre, like turning a printed photo on a table. A 90° turn swaps the width and height, so a sideways landscape video becomes a proper portrait video. Flipping makes a mirror image: a horizontal flip swaps left and right, which un-mirrors text in selfie videos, and a vertical flip swaps top and bottom. If you are not sure, try one option, check the preview and run it again with another; your original file is never changed.

Why some rotations do not stick

Many phones save video in a single orientation and add a small rotation note inside the file. Some players, websites and older TVs ignore that note and show the video sideways. This tool applies the rotation to every frame, so the fix works in every app and on every website.

After rotating

A video that was filmed vertically will stay vertical after a 90° turn. If you need it in a different shape for a Reel or a YouTube video, use Resize Video for Reels to add blurred bars. To share it in a chat, shrink it with the Video Compressor. For photos that are sideways, the Image Cropper can rotate those.

VSH take

VSH take: a sideways video is one of the most common small annoyances, and fixing it should take seconds and never cost you privacy. This tool does it on your device, free and without a watermark. Use these tools only on videos you made or have permission to edit.

Frequently asked questions

Is my video uploaded?

No. The video is processed by your own browser on your own device, so it never reaches our server and no one else can see it.

Is it really free? Is there a watermark?

Yes, it is completely free with no sign-up, no limits on the number of videos and no watermark added, because your own device does the work.

Which way should I rotate?

If the top of the picture is on the left, rotate 90° right. If it is on the right, rotate 90° left. If it is upside down, rotate 180°.

Does rotating lose quality?

The video is re-encoded at high quality, so any difference is very hard to see.

How do I fix a mirrored selfie video?

Choose Flip horizontally (mirror). Writing and logos will read the right way round.
