How to use the Video to MP3
Sometimes the sound is the part you need: a talk you filmed, a recording of your band, a voice message saved as video or a lecture you want to listen to on a walk. This tool takes the audio track out of a video file on your device and saves it as a separate sound file.
Choose a video file. MP4, MOV from iPhones, WebM and MKV all work. Pick a format: MP3 plays on every device and app, M4A (AAC) is a little more efficient and suits Apple devices, and WAV is uncompressed, which is useful if you are going to edit the sound. For MP3 and M4A, 192 kbps is a good default; 96 kbps is fine for speech and keeps files small.
Press Extract audio. The video picture is ignored and only the sound is converted, so this is quick even for long videos. Listen to the result in the player, then download it. If the video has no sound track, the tool will tell you.
Only for your own videos
This tool works with video files that are already on your device, such as clips you filmed, recordings of your own lessons or meetings you are allowed to keep, or videos you have the rights to. It does not download from YouTube or other websites. Copying music or shows that belong to someone else can break copyright law and the site’s rules, so please respect creators.
Which format and quality?
For speech such as lectures, interviews and voice notes, MP3 at 96 or 128 kbps sounds clear and keeps files small. For music you recorded, 192 kbps or 320 kbps keeps more detail. WAV is lossless and much larger; choose it if you plan to edit or clean the audio in a sound editor, then export to MP3 later.
A higher bitrate cannot improve sound that was already compressed in the video, so 192 kbps is usually the sweet spot.
What to do next
Turn the speech into text with Audio to Text, which also runs on your device, or record a fresh voice track with the Voice Recorder. To keep a short part only, cut the video first with the Video Trimmer, and to remove the sound from a video instead, use Mute Video.

Frequently asked questions
Is my video uploaded?
No. The video is processed by your own browser on your own device, so it never reaches our server and no one else can see it.
Is it really free? Is there a watermark?
Yes, it is completely free with no sign-up, no limits on the number of videos and no watermark added, because your own device does the work.
Can I use this for YouTube videos?
No. It only converts video files already on your device, like ones you recorded. Respect copyright and use it for your own content or content you have permission to use.
Which is better, MP3 or M4A?
Both sound similar at the same bitrate. MP3 is supported everywhere; M4A is slightly more efficient and works well on Apple devices.
Why do I get a “no sound track” message?
The video file does not contain any audio, for example a screen recording made without sound.
