How to use the Video Trimmer

Often you only need a few seconds of a long recording: the goal in a match, the part of a lecture with the answer or the funny moment from a family video. This video trimmer keeps the part between a start and an end time and removes everything else.

Choose a video. Play it, pause where your clip should begin and tap Set start at current position, then do the same for the end. You can also type the times in seconds, for example 12.5. The clip length updates as you go.

Pick a cutting mode. Fast copies the original video and sound without re-encoding, so it is almost instant and keeps full quality, but the cut lands on the nearest keyframe, which can be up to a couple of seconds before your start time. Exact re-encodes the clip so it starts on the exact frame; it takes longer and saves an MP4. Press Trim video, watch the result and download it.

Fast or Exact: which should I pick?

Choose Fast when you are cutting a long recording down to a section and a second or two of extra footage at the start does not matter. It is the best choice for big files because the picture is copied, not rebuilt, so even an hour-long video is cut in seconds and keeps its original quality.

Choose Exact when timing matters, such as a short clip for a status update, a reaction or a GIF. Exact mode decodes and re-encodes only the part you keep, so the clip starts exactly where you set it.

Ideas for using the trimmer

Shorten a clip to fit the length limit of a status or story, remove the shaky first seconds where you pressed record, cut a long screen recording down to the useful part, or pull one highlight out of a sports video. After trimming you can compress the clip for sharing, resize it for Reels or Shorts, or add captions.

To keep two separate parts of the same video, trim it twice with different start and end times and save both clips.
