Video Frame Grabber – Save Any Frame of a Video as an Image

Save the perfect moment from your video as a full-quality photo or thumbnail.

How to use: Choose a video, pause on the moment you want and press Save this frame, or grab evenly spaced frames, then download each image or all as a ZIP.

Runs on your device using your browser’s own video player, so it starts instantly and nothing is uploaded.

How to use the Video Frame Grabber

A screenshot of a paused video is usually blurry, includes the player buttons and is limited to your screen size. This frame grabber saves the actual video frame at its full resolution, so a 1080p video gives you a sharp 1920×1080 image and a 4K video gives you an 8-megapixel photo.

Choose a video. Play it and pause on the moment you want; on a computer, click the player and use the arrow keys to step back and forward. Press Save this frame and the image appears below, labelled with its exact time. Repeat for as many frames as you like. To get an overview of a whole video, choose a number and press Grab evenly spaced frames; the tool jumps through the video and saves that many frames spread across it.

Choose JPG for small files, PNG for lossless quality, or WebP. Save single images or download them all at once as a ZIP.

Frame grabber vs screenshot

A normal screenshot captures whatever is on your screen, including the player controls, subtitles and any scaling, so it is often smaller and softer than the real video. The frame grabber reads the decoded frame straight from the video and saves every pixel. On phones it also avoids notifications and the status bar appearing in your picture. Evenly spaced frames are a quick way to preview a long clip, choose the best thumbnail or make a storyboard.

Uses for video frames

Make a thumbnail for your own YouTube video, save a sharp still from a family video for printing or a profile picture, capture a slide from a recorded lecture, or create a contact sheet of a clip to plan edits. For a moving picture instead of a still, use Video to GIF.

Getting the sharpest frame

Fast motion is blurred in a single frame, just like a photo taken with a slow shutter, so pause on a moment where the subject is still. Videos filmed at higher frame rates usually have less motion blur per frame. After saving, you can crop the frame with the Image Cropper, shrink it with the Image Compressor or protect it with Add Watermark to Photo.

VSH take

VSH take: this is the one video tool that needs no download at all, because your browser’s own player does the work, so it is instant even on older phones. Full-resolution frames, free and private. Use these tools only on videos you made or have permission to edit.

No. The video is processed by your own browser on your own device, so it never reaches our server and no one else can see it.

Is it free?

Yes. There are no limits and no watermark.

What resolution are the images?

The same as the video. A 1080p video gives 1920×1080 images.

Which video formats work?

Any format your browser can play, usually MP4, MOV (on most devices) and WebM.
